Araura College is developing a stronger vocational programme which enables students to access courses in work related fields.

Year 7 / 8 / 9

From 2014 all students in year 7, 8 and 9 must follow a full year long course in

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social science
  • Arts
  • Physical Education and Health
  • Cook Island Maori
  • Information Communication Technology
  • Option rotation subjects: Woodwork. Graphics, Home Economics and Sewing

Year 10

From 2014 all students in year 10 must follow a full year long course in

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Science
  • Cook Islands Maori
  • Physical Education and Health
  • Home Economics

In addition students will be allowed to select 4 options from the following subjects:

  • Wood Work
  • Information Communications Technology
  • Graphics
  • Enterprise
  • Art

Year 11

Students must pursue a course of study in five subjects of which Mathematics and English are compulsory*.   Three other subjects must be chosen from a list of subjects.

  • Woodwork
  • Careers and Tourism
  • Cook Island Maori

*Students taking English Foundation gain their literacy credits from other subjects and must take Cook island Maori as their compulsory subject.

  • Teachers can vary the number or NZQF level of standards on offer to whole classes or individuals within classes to ensure that quality learning is maximised. However such change can only be implemented with the agreement of the HoD
  • The availability of any subject is subject to student numbers and staff availability

Year 12
