Two students are now the proud owners of laptops after winning an essay competition.

The competition, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Rarotonga, had students write an essay about what career they want in the future.

The two winners were Joryna Pokura from Tereora College and Alone Joseph from Araura College. Each received an Asus laptop, which was presented to them at the opening ceremony of the Careers Expo on Thursday at the Telecom Sports Arena.

Rotary president Mike Pynenburg said the competition is part of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to support young people in the Cook Islands, including donating money to the Future for Youth initiative and projects such as giving pictorial dictionaries to school students.

The essay competition was judged by members of the Rotoract club of Rarotonga.

The outcome of the competition was kept under wraps until the Career Expo opening, with both students happily surprised to discover they were the winners.
